At Lykos we believe coaching is key.   Our certified coaches are here to support, educate, and make you feel comfortable in our classes.  We believe it is important our coaches are passionate about CrossFit, human movement and coaching.  You will find our coaches WODing with class when they have a night off, working towards their own PR’s and bettering themselves to better our members.

Tell me a little about yourself.

My wife, CrossFit, my two Pitbulls, and tattoos pretty much sums me up …….. oh and singing along to every song (even if I don’t know the words).

How has CrossFit effected your life  & why do you think it has such a powerful impact on others?

It is simply the best way to get in shape, however I think it is much more than that.  I think most CrossFitters (including myself) truly enjoy and are passionate about it.  The CrossFit community is a powerful thing, I have met some of my best friends inside a CrossFit gym.    CrossFit is fun, it’s as simple as that & I love doing it.  Some people  read, some people paint, I CrossFit. 

What are you favorite WOD’s and Lifts?

Hopper style WODs for sure.  Making something up on the fly.  Coach Nick will tell you my favorite lift is a powerclean (I wont tell him that he is right, I hate it when he is right).

What is your goal for Lykos and it’s members?

My goal is to hear , “I heard that place (lykos) has an awesome community”.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I was born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I worked as a personal trainer for years before stumbling upon some Rob Orlando videos. Slowly but surely, I began a transformation from meathead to movement nerd. I bought the Level-1 class as a birthday treat to myself, walked into the box the day of the seminar, and never looked back. What attracts me to CrossFit the most is the emotions it evokes and forces you to face. The ups and downs, along with the constant testing of your limits, will humble you each and everyday. The “bend but don’t break” attitude, that comes with the testing, is easily applied to everyday life. I live paleo, for the most part, yet ironically my day job involves great cheese and fine italian dining. Also, I have a huge sweet tooth. If only Oreos made me more supple….

How has CrossFit effected your life & why do you think it has such a powerful impact on people?

CrossFit changed my life in a number of ways. It has helped to open my eyes and redefine what fitness is to me. Reading the L-1 manual was a “lights on” type of experience. I had been into fitness and training for years but it helped to connect the pieces. It made too much sense. Crossfit has given me a platform to express myself and teach human movement. The hardship and mental battles that are experienced during WODs carry over to everyday life. I’m certain these experiences help me to be a stronger person.

What is your goal for Lykos and its members?

My goal for Lykos is to create a strong community where everyone shows up to improve upon themselves. Everyone is there for different reasons. Some come to be higher level athletes while others are looking for a workout and to stay healthy. The beauty behind crossfit is that those are one in the same. I want to enable people to understand how their body functions. Human movement is at the root of what we do. Speed and weight are bi-products once the true principles are understood and executed.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I was born and raised in Palatine with my two older sisters and various cats. I am married to my handsome, CrossFitting husband, Keith and we have loved hitting the gym together since we got engaged in 2012 (the “We’re in love, so who cares if we’re out of shape” phase came to an abrupt end shortly thereafter; thank God).  I love going to church and say a prayer before every WOD.   I spend my 9-5 teaching in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom and enjoy the constant energy I am surrounded by.  Getting my students to practice functional movements within lessons is one of my favorite tricks.  I feel very lucky to be a coach at Lykos and love soaking up knowledge and skills from coach Shawn and coach Nick.  I look forward to growing as a coach and helping the Lykos family find their inner beasts.

How has CrossFit effected your life & why do you think it has such a powerful impact on people?

I have always been an active person, but CrossFit changed everything for me.  CrossFit made me strong and helped me to appreciate the body that I have instead of trying to change it.  I appreciate what my body can do so much more now and that encourages healthy eating and all-around living.  CrossFit makes tasks that seem impossible, within your reach. After you realize what you can do once you try (I mean, really try) your outlook changes.  Suddenly, everyday tasks don’t seem so bad either.  Who knew?  When people approach CrossFit with honesty but without fear, they provide themselves with an invaluable opportunity to better their physical condition, their mental toughness and general outlook on life’s circumstances.  This is why people are impacted.  This is why people get hooked and never look back.  I know I won’t.

What are your favorite WODs and Lifts?

My favorite WOD is Grace.  30 Clean and Jerks for time.  Fast and furious.
My favorite lift is probably a good old fashioned squat clean.  Nothing better than sore shruggers and quads!

What is your goal for Lykos and its members?

My goal for Lykos members is to realize their potential and attack.  Not to beat themselves up but push through those tough WODs and train the weaknesses.  I want Lykos members to set, reach, reset and re-reach goals.  I want them to surprise themselves.
