When did you start CrossFit?
I started at Lykos on August 20th
 
A few details about yourself?
I live and grew up in Lake Zurich.  I have a great family (my mom, my 4 sisters, my brother in law, and my 2 nephews).  I graduated from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL with a BA in Business.  I work in customer service for a company in Lincolnshire called Aon Hewitt.  My stupid human trick is that I can wiggle my ears.  I’ve never been the athletic type, but CrossFit has helped me grow athletically in many ways.
 
What type of fitness were you doing before CrossFit?
I worked out at Fitness 19 in Lake Zurich before they closed, but wasn’t doing anything after that.  I found out about CrossFit Lykos through my aunt.  Coach Andrew knows her and was telling her about Lykos when it first opened.  She encouraged me to check it out and I’ve been hooked ever since.
 
What is your favorite and least favorite lift and/or movement? 
My favorite lift is the dead lift.  Coach Nick kept pushing me to add more weight one night, and to my surprise, I was able to get to a 1 rep max of 205lbs.  My least favorite movement is snatching.  I’m not great at it, but am getting better though.
 
What was your favorite and least favorite WOD?
My least favorite WOD was the Labor Day one.  We worked in teams of 4 and part of it was to do a total of 200 burpee broad jumps up the sledding hill in Lake Zurich.  I was so out of shape at that time that I couldn’t get through it and ended up having to quit.  My favorite WOD (as sadistic as this is) was from a few weeks ago.  The WOD was a 1800m Run, 50 Air Squats, 40 Box Jumps, 30 Push Press, 20 Power Snatch, 10 HSPU, followed by a 800m Run.  This was my favorite because it was one of the hardest WODs that I’ve been able to finish and everyone kept pushing each other to keep going.
 
How has your view about CrossFit changed since your first WOD at Lykos?
My first WOD was very humbling and wasn’t a great experience.  Since then, I’ve gotten a lot stronger and have been able to get through WODs without having to quit, even if I’m the last one done.  It’s still hard, but as the saying goes, if you let it, it will change you.
 
Have you achieved any of your goals?
I was never great at push-ups before CrossFit.  My push-ups are much better now, even though they still need work.  My jump roping has improved too, and one of my goals is to be able to do double unders.  Some other goals I have is to be able to do muscle-ups and handstand push-ups.
 
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the box?
CrossFit has affected my life in such a positive way.  I’ve had issues with anxiety and confidence.  CrossFit has helped me become more confident, sociable, and has helped me get through some of the issues I’ve had with anxiety.  My eating habits have changed drastically.  I look forward to going toLykos on the days I work out and have enjoyed every moment.  I’ve been blessed by the community and how all of the coaches have invested in me.  I’ve also been better about setting goals and keeping to them.
 
What advice would you give to a newbie CrossFitter?
If you’re a newbie crossfitter, DON’T GIVE UP!  Don’t be afraid and know that you can do it!  There were definitely times at the beginning where I wanted to give up and wondered what I signed up for.  If you keep going though, you will notice that you begin getting stronger both mentally and physically.  You’ll also notice that at the end of every WOD you finish, even if you’re the last one done, you’ll have such a great sense of accomplishment.
