When did you start CrossFit?

A few details about yourself (hobbies, things you enjoy on your free time)?
Avid water sports enthusiast! Wakeboarding, skiing, paddleboarding, kayaking. This winter I enjoyed teaching my 4 year old how to downhill ski.
What type of fitness were you doing before CrossFit?
Running on a treadmill. Downloading different Men’s Health workouts. Just going through the motions. As well as a lot of different outdoor sports, volleyball, and a little bit of cycling..
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?
I have always enjoyed the team WODs that involve indoor and outdoor components. Least favorite would have to be calorie rowing or thrusters!
What is your favorite and least favorite lift and/or movement?
Favorite and most fun have been gymnastics movements. Whether it is walking handstands, HSPUs, kipping pull ups or ring MUs. Least favorite would have to be OHS, and even thatI don’t mind so much.
How has your view about CrossFit changed since your first WOD at Lykos?
Honestly, it hasn’t. After my first workout I knew this was for me. The first couple months are a real learning experience because we were doing movements and lifts I had never done before. I wasn’t use to getting such a great workout in only 10-20 minutes. Getting to know the people in the workout have made it so much fun and rewarding.
What are you 2014 goals? Did you accomplish any of your 2013 goals?
2014 goals are to get a ring MU (completed in February), get 50 DUs unbroken (completed in March), butterfly pullups, deadlift 400#, 5 unbroken MUs. I didn’t really make goals in 2013. I just wanted to be consistent.
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the box?
Absolutely! I find that I eat better. I stopped drinking soda and I cut back on portion sizes. I decided that I put in so much effort to become better at CrossFit that I don’t want to go home and ruin that hard work!
What advice would you give to a newbie CrossFitter?
Stick with it! The first weeks hurt, but the soreness will lessen. (It won’t go away though!) It is supposed to get you out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to try something for the first time. If you don’t get it, odds are that everyone else failed their first time too. Make sure to talk to and encourage those around you!
If you created your perfect WOD, what would it be?
I can’t wait for summer. I want to create WODs at the lake involving paddle boarding, air squats and push ups on the paddle board, swimming, and running sprints on the beach and then ending it with a cold beer! Who’s with me?!!
How has the 2014 CrossFit Open been treating you?
Its been fun and sobering. I honestly didn’t think I would be so confident in each workout. I love the competitiveness of it!

Sub 5 minute mile or 500# back squat? Sub 5 min mile. I’m all about endurance!
